The British-trained horses on course for the Breeders’ Cup

As the prestigious Breeders’ Cup draws near, returning to Del Mar in California on 1-2 November, all eyes this side of the Atlantic are on the British-trained horses set to compete against the world’s finest. This prestigious international showdown not only showcases elite equine talent but also excites those keen on horse race betting online.

With a strong British contingent preparing for the challenge, the anticipation is growing for what promises to be a thrilling spectacle on the global racing stage. That said, read on as we examine the top runners set to make the lengthy trip to Del Mar.

Aesterius – Juvenile Turf Sprint

British-trained horses have won the last two renewals of the Juvenile Turf Sprint, with Godolphin’s Mischief Magic landing the spoils in 2022 before Big Evs secured a huge win for Michael Appleby at Santa Anita last year.

Appleby has a chance to defend the $1m prize with Big Mojo next month, but it could be more beneficial to side with Aesterius—who beat Big Mojo by a neck in a thrilling finish to the Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster in September.

The Archie Watson-trained horse has a respectable record of four wins in six starts over five furlongs this season, and it would be fitting to end the campaign with a top-level success.

Desert Flower – Juvenile Fillies’ Turf

The ante-post market for the Juvenile Fillies Turf is dominated by Aidan O’Brien’s exciting two-year-olds, Heavens Gate, Lake Victoria and January, but the Charlie Appleby-trained Desert Flower could be worth considering at 10/1.

The Godolphin filly is unbeaten in her three starts, winning her debut and a novice contest at Newmarket with relative ease before holding off the aforementioned January by over a length in a Group 2 at Doncaster last month,

That latest win was over a mile and Desert Flower could well kick on to get the better of O’Brien’s fillies in this contest.

New Century – Juvenile Turf

A horse who has already displayed his ability on North American soil, New Century landed the Grade 1 Summer Stakes at Woodbine in Canada last month—reversing the form on Al Qudra after finishing runner-up to the Godolphin horse at Ascot in July.

That was a third win in five career starts for the Andrew Balding-trained two-year-old, and while the Japanese-trained Ecoro Sieg will be very hard to beat, New Century has every chance of carrying on his progression in the Juvenile Turf.

Notable Speech – Breeders’ Cup Mile

While Notable Speech’s form has been inconsistent of late, finishing seventh and fifth at Ascot and Longchamp on either side of a win at Goodwood.

That Group 1 Sussex Stakes victory secured the Godolphin horse’s place in the Breeders’ Cup Mile, though, and the shock 2000 Guineas winner is the favourite for the $2m contest.

The Ralph Beckett-trained Bluestocking, who has been in immense form this season with three group wins in five starts, is the favourite for the Filly and Mare Turf, while Rebel’s Romance has another big chance for Appleby and Godolphin in the Breeders’ Cup Turg.
